Description
In 1986 CALLERLAB introduced a procedure to follow when one or more squares have broken down. The aim of the procedure is allow broken squares to recover and rejoin the action without having to wait for the end of the sequence. This process was dubbed the "Lost Square" procedure. It provides steps for both the caller and the dancers to follow to permit quicker recovery. The first link above goes to the CALLERLAB document.

The late Tim Marriner wrote a more detailed discourse on square recovery that includes not only tips for recovering the square, but also how to prevent breakage in the first place. The second link goes to Tim's document.
